要了解不同字的意思和用法，最好的方式是查閱字典當中的解釋和例句，以 appealing 來說，在Macmillan Dictionary 的解釋是attractive and interesting，而後面接的是介系詞to，它提供的例句如下:
appealing to:

所以be appealing to 的意思是某物很有吸引人或者很有趣，讓人很喜歡或者很想要。
而 attract 在字典中查到的解釋如下:
be attracted to someone:
to interest someone in a romantic or sexual way
所以動詞be attracted to someone 比較多用在男女感情上的吸引，
appeal 當｢吸引｣解釋時，是不及物動詞，沒有被動，所以形容詞就會變成 appealing。attract 是及物動詞，所以當作｢被吸引｣解釋時，有被動 be attracted to 的用法，而兩者使用的意義不太相同。
